About The Wirral & District Koi Society

Established in 1983, the Wirral & District Koi Society was created to connect koi enthusiasts in a welcoming club environment. Initially, only a few dedicated members with limited resources and experience came together to share their passion for koi. Over time, the society has grown considerably, now bringing together 89 families who share an interest in koi keeping and pond care.

The society organizes regular pond tours at members’ homes, offering a chance to view different ponds, koi varieties, and diverse pond ecosystems. These gatherings are enjoyable and informative, featuring presentations and discussions on topics like koi species, breeding practices, pond construction, water filtration, and fish health management.

Each year, the society holds a public Koi Show, where members display their koi for friendly competition. Experienced judges assess koi based on quality, variety, and size, with winners honored at an evening banquet. This event is a valuable opportunity for members to volunteer, contribute, and engage with the local community.

Membership in the Wirral & District Koi Society also includes opportunities to attend seminars, participate in koi rescues, and visit koi dealers. Members receive a regular newsletter covering club updates, koi care tips, best practices for pond maintenance, and upcoming events.
